Reading
This week we worked on writing words that begin with /c/. We learned that it also has a soft sound like the letter/s/. We blended and segmented onset words and rimes. These words are one syllable and we are able to sound out each letter to make a word. /c/ /a/ /t/ and that rhymes with /s/ /p/ /l//a//t/. We also worked on the long vowels. We concentrated on the letters /oa/. When two vowels go a walking the first one does the talking. We read and wrote words like: boat and coat and we also learned about the silent e when it's with a vowel. Like the word hope and slope. The students are doing a wonderful job writing. Continue to have them write list at home and sentences. We use our dry erase markers so much that they are drying up. We have on our classroom wish list DRY ERASE EXPO MARKERS!
We learned the words him, it, up, me, but. We played the scratch me game by finding the sight words and then scratch them off with a smelly marker.
Math
We made our December pattern calendar. We are using an ABCD pattern in the classroom. I introduced the language of probability. We had to think of and categorize likely, unlikely, and impossible events. We worked on using our ten frames and played a spinning of game of ten frame recognition. We are also learning to play games with dice by recognizing the numbers.
